Quote"Show us the documents relating to ongoing investigations". Unquote

Did anybody check Kyle Sampson's lower right hand desk drawer for those? /snark

He also dropped the claim of being a special case, growing up poor and Hispanic in Texas, etc. Seems like just a few weeks ago he was playing that card, huh?

Though it looks like it just got mostly edited out. This is the residue:

In part because of my own experience, I know the real strength of America.

They left enough in there so people like Kyl and Cornyn can go out and accuse Democrats of beating up a minority.

TPM has a link to an interview with Paulose (in Minn Star-Tribune) in which she claims to have been surprised by her appointment as USA; also she says she never met Abu, but was a good friend of Goodling.

Yeah, right.

Of course, they're not going ot push minority card now that bombshells like this make it clear they ousted another up-and-coming Latino for no good reason.

Great Post EW. I found it interesting that the NYT's editorial took a big MSM leap into Rove wanting the enchalada by covering his tracks through a mass firing of USA's. That this goes to the bogus voter fraud claims. This of course takes it back to making sure they controlled elections which is what Rove wanted for his permanent GOP majority.

It looks like Rove didn't take into account that loyalty is not always a sign of competency. The beauty of Gonzogate is that exposes more of the crap to sunlight. If Gonzo was stupid enough to do an Op-Ed today then he just shot himself in the foot. I assume Pat Leahy will read this and be prepared for the arguements Gonzo makes in it.

Bush pulled the trigger on Iglesias.

The Republican talking point on the USA question is that “they serve at the pleasure of the president.”

Dems: Please, Please, PLEASE, reframe this issue.

The question is not whether the president had the power to remove USAs. The question is whether the President is abusing power to subvert the electoral process and the integrity of the justice system..

The pleasure of the President may be to subvert democracy.

It’s not my pleasure.

The Republicans want to frame the question soley as whether the President has the power of removal.

The real issue is whether there is a legitimate exercise of that power, or an abuse of power.

The more they act like they have something to hide, the more I believe that they demonstrate that they do have something to hide.

I so totally second what albert fall just said!

EW, as always, great incisive post.

I think by this article Alberto seems to be signalling that he solely focused on not being prosecuted at this point.

I fear that again you have charged out with an untenable theory.

Your statement from above--
"See how all these statements protect Rove? "My decision" ... "commissioning this management review process." Creating the myth (not under oath, I note) that he, Alberto Gonzales initiated this process, not Rove.

This theory parallels the obsession with Rove-Wilson-Plame.

Now I know that despite quite a few credits in Physics, I am no Copernicus, Kepler or Newton, but I still have enough moxie to reject this geocentric (or Rovecentric) model of the known Universe.

You should try beating a new dead horse.

Getting closer to the smoking (hired) gun, K. Rove.

I will chime in with a third to Albert Fall and LHP. Really, what Albert Fall says is what we already knew about Bush. This President finds pleasure in torture; and torture is exactly what he is doing to our democracy. He is inflicting major organ damage to the body of our justice system. I agree completely with LHP that the only thing AG is trying to do at this point is walk himself back from a perjury allegation. Thing is, from a criminal defense standpoint, putting your name on any written statement disseminated nationally at this point is a fairly insane tactic. It might benefit Bush's PR, but to Gonzales personally, it is absolutely insane. This is just another in the continuing series of "This man is our freaking Attorney General???" moments.

I think the oped is just a way to flush out counter arguments and other lines of questioning that may have slipped by in AG's weeks long cram sessions.

The "recall" is innocuous, but the "to my knowledge" guards his statement about his involvement in decisions: where he should be clear, he's vague. He is clear that he directed Sampson to initiate the process - but not about when, and what was his involvement at the end? He is unsure. And of course, he doesn't tell us who directed him.

Is Rove the most powerful man in the world? Presidents come and go, but Karl Rove will run the RNC until he is dead. Rove's goal of a "permanent majority" is no joke.

Scott Backen,

The superpowerful Rove is like the evil Doctor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes. Invented by Democrats to explain away their policy failures. Something like ~it can't be us, it must be the Arch Evil Karl Rove's" fault.

I especially like the Rachel Paulose claim that she was "surprised" at how quickly her star rose in the firmament. I think Bette Davis' character heard that line from Eve Harrington in All About Eve. Ms. Paulose is not Heidi; she is the starlet who plots and plans for years to move from understudy to star. And lets nothing stand in her way.

The evidence suggests that Ms. Paulose is the classic upwardly graceful, downwardly punitive manager. To those from whom she can expect no grace or favor, she is extraordinarily abrasive, lacks self-knowledge or restraint, and is so enraptured at the prospect of her own advancement that she trashes her own office to get it.

Too bad for the people of Minnesota that she hasn't the experience or interest to complete an investigation or prosecute a case, much less enforce federal workplace rules or civil rights.

The tragedy is that she is so representative of this Administration. Lurita Doan at the GSA, Monica Goodling at Main Justice, Brett Kavanaugh on the DC Circuit (!), and the legion of others at Defense, State, Treasury, FCC, ad nauseum. The Democrats will need to reroute the Potomac to clean the stables. (And suggesting that the Potomac is cleaner than anything is quite an image.)

yo tokyo jodi the worm tongue, we already know you're no Copernicus, Kepler or Newton

you're a fucking worm tongue

you have no brains, no concept of logical thought, no will of your own

you are a slave to a slave, and a dispicable human being

you would sell your mother to the turks for a half a day's bread

you've been weighed, measuured, and found to be a worm tongue

so don't ever worry that we would confuse you with a great thinker in history

or even an average thinker ...

Jodi, Scientists are typically very good at analyzing evidence and using what they've learned to direct their investigations (I.E. learn the evidence and postulate a theory that fits). Your MO is to disregard the facts whether to assert or deny. You make no effort to postulate a narrative that makes sense to you and propose it here. Rather, you just post dissmissive criticism. Why bother?

What I found interesting in that oped is that he clearly recalls certain moments and conversations. This will contrast nicely with the expected "I have no recollection" "I don't recall remembering that" "I have no memory of that" and all the other formulations designed to navigate around the political sinkholes.

The mental image is of Gonzales in Yellowstone, crossing a valley full of mudpits and bubbling geysers and hot spots... with no clear map or moral compass, only a determination not to fall in or pull others down with him. Unfortunately, the mud and muck is up to his knees... and he is a shoeless pea, rather than a bootless bene.

And I must agree with the lawyers above. A signed and printed oped declaring that you've made witnesses and documents available isn't going to sit well with a committee fuming over its lack of access. It may convince some of the newsreaders, but they aren't the ones deciding his fate.

so let's ask abo gonzo to explain the reason for firing each of the US Attorneys seperatly

he says that there were NO IMPROPER removals, so we can infere that abu gonzo KNOWS the reason why each US Attorney was fired

first question, WHY WAS CAROL LAM FIRED ???

second question, WHY WAS MR IGLASIA FIRED

third question, WHY WAS (fill in the blank) fired

make abu gonzo provide the reason (which he claims to know based upon his claim that the firings were NOT improper)

no ifs, no ands, no butts

explain each why each fired US Attorney was fired

then explain how the false charges of "Incompetence" came to be given as valid reasons for the firings

anybody think abu gonzo could survive those questions (cept you tokyo jodi the worm tongue, lets just keep this question for the people who actually think)

"Invented by Democrats to explain away their policy failures." Yeah like gender equality.

Tokyo Jodi, keep supporting one of the cornerstone of George Bush's "social policies," that guys "own" your uterus.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle "invented" Moriarity as a character for his Sherlock Holmes novels. Rove actually has a birth certificate and is a real living human being, who was mentioned frequently in the Libby trial. After the trial, it was the "jury" who asked, "where's Rove?"

Oh, artfay, you took the bait. I was rejoicing that NO ONE had responded to, or even acknowledged her. I'm hoping silence is the best way to keep her (him?) away.

There's a type here--wasn't John Bolton also described as a kiss up, kick down type of manager?

I think that the Albuquerque Journal article linked above should lay to rest any suspicions abnout who was responsible here. Marcy has it dead to rights.

Can someone point out the source for the following information:

"Last week, Alberto Gonzales' handlers had to cancel an appearance on Meet the Press, because he couldn't get his story straight."

Thank you.

Read this post, with links.

In physics, every force has a counterforce, every particle an antiparticle. For a quark, an antiquark, for a Marcy, an anti-Marcy. Face it, folks, Jodi is just a phenomenon of political physics, a decaying particle facing intellectual annihilation at every collision.

Keep up the excellent work, Ms. Wheeler.

notjonathon, doesn't Marcy have a Doctorate? She deserves one, if she doesn't have one.

yo tokyo freepatriot the worm tongue
you are amusing.

Tokyo John Casper,

you and yours stay away from my uterus!

No offense intended. I stand corrected, and I apologize. As a Fudd myself, I should have said, "Dr. Wheeler." Most of my mail comes addressed as "Mr." (with the occasional "Dr." or "Prof.").

As to the recovery of E-Mail.... interesting 30 second bit on CBS News tonight, without any specificity they said techs had begun to recover "some" of the WH E-Mail previously thought lost. I sure hope Leahy has "his" tech in there watching with a hawk eye every keystroke.

"you and yours stay away from my uterus!"

Tokyo Jodi, I am so sorry. You clearly do not understand the Bush platform against abortion and for life, a women's uterus belongs to men. You have Democrats and liberals to thank for the fact that this is not the law of the land.

John Casper, you are making the mistake of asuming that what Jodi writes in her posts reflects what she understands. But it has been apparent for a long time that her posts consist only of banter and talking points, not opinions or arguments to be taken literally.

Tokyo John Casper
you clearly do not understand that I don't agree with Bush on many things. I have even specified my stands on many things twice on this forum. I would prefer to avoid abortion, but the final choice should be the woman's except in the case of partial birth. I don't believe in killing the fetus if it is viable when removed. Take it out and the woman never has to see it again.

cymro you are wrong there, but you make no points except to diss' me.

Freepatriot, John Casper, Cymro, I think Mauimon is right. From now on, you must ignore her no matter how tempting her idiocy (just witness her calling you all Tokyo back with no understanding of the irony). If there's one thing I learned when going to the zoo it was this -- DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS!
