From the outside it looks like a split between those with job security (AFSCME, IAFF) and those without (SEIU, UFCW) - another battle of the "haves" and "have-nots", just at a lower level on the income scale.

This is really depressing, both in the apparent trend to dump money into politics instead of organizing, and from the standpoint that this is not the time for there to be a split in labor's ranks (although I don't see the malcontents having much choice).
