As the heat moves east, and the evidence linking heat waves to global warming piles up, some people, at least, are rethinking old views. Via Think Progress, Pat Robertson says that he's becoming a convert on global warming, and that if we are putting more CO2 into the atmosphere, then we really need to do something about fossil fuels.
On the other hand, Roy Blunt, the GOP's number two man in the House, promises that Congress "won't do anything meaningful" on climate change if the GOP is returned to power. One more reason to make sure that doesn't happen.
Meanwhile, to find your own impact on the problem and for a way to mitigate it, check out this website. They have a nifty calculator to estimate your CO2 contributions from driving, and a way to fund alternative energy projects to compensate for them. At least it's something we can do right now.

Mimikatz: can you explain here how the Terrapass (or other offset funding schemes) actually helps? A Sierra Club chapter was touting another one and I couldn't get anyone to give me an explanation that convinced me that this wasn't just some kind of non-profit capitalization scheme. Not a bad thing, but not a help either. Am I being ignorant?
Saw the Gore movie yesterday here in the land of the vacationing, sweating super rich. (I'm immured here helping a sick friend.) The graphic which most caught my attention was that cars made anywhere else in the world, even China, have to comply with higher emissiion standards than in the U.S. Never saw that mentioned anywhere before. Wonder why not? We should be screaming it.

I think they invest the money in alternative energy products. I was recommending it more for the calculator, to see how driving affects CO2 emissions.
I have heard people who simply refuse to believe what Gore said about Chinese cars. I don't know why, since the Japanese already produce cars better than what we require.
